RADES (AfroBasket 2015) - Mozambique point guard Ermelindo Novela will miss the remainder of AfroBasket 2015 due to a knee injury.
The 24-year-old collided with an opponent in the third quarter of the team's 84-72 defeat to Angola on Thursday.
"He does not need surgery but he needs between four to six weeks before he starts playing again," a member of Mozambique medical team told FIBA.com.
He said to FIBA.com: "Certainly I am not happy with the injury, but what can I do?
"I am now on crutches, but I'm supposed to be playing an active role."
Mozambique who lost their two games so far in the Group Phase, against Angola and against Senegal, are also still grieving the death of Joao Chirindza.
In the aftermath of Mozambique's defeat to Senegal on Saturday, the entire team and coaching staff paid tribute to the former Mozambique international.
"We wanted to honour the memory of Joao [Chirindza] in the best way for all the work he has done in all these years, but it didn't happen," veteran forward Custodio Muchate said.
"But we have another chance against Morocco [on Monday]."
