McCarthy, Bafana's record scorer with 32 goals, won the European Champions League with FC Porto in 2004, while he also featured for Ajax Amsterdam, Celta Vigo, Blackburn Rovers and West Ham United. McCarthy retired from playing two years ago following a stint with Orlando Pirates.
