Lausanne (SUI), July 16, 2015 - FINA and Midea, a leading electrical appliance manufacturer and front runner of technological innovation in China, are proud to have reached the second year of a partnership for the FINA World Championships, the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) and the World Record Programme which initially started in 2010 and was renewed in 2014.

With an agreement starting five years ago and currently running through 2017, Midea has provided an ongoing support to FINA over the years and has proven to be a reliable partner, in particular and more recently on-site support for the FINA World Championships. Midea was also title partner of the FINA Diving World Series from 2011-2013.

Midea held today in Moscow (RUS) a press conference to present its global and marketing strategies which are tailored around its long-term relationship with FINA. The giant company also took the occasion to make their announcement of the brand’s official launch in Russia, along with explaining the nature of their partnership with FINA.

FINA Executive Director Cornel Marculescu, Midea Russian representative Alexey Obukhov, and Kazan 2015 Ambassador Gleb Galperin (bronze medal in diving at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing) were among the delegation today in Moscow. Other speaker included Midea’s Global Head of Public Relations, Matthew Smith.

FINA Executive Director Cornel Marculescu highlighted the importance of this partnership:

“We are very excited by the increased involvement of Midea and the sponsorship activation deployed for the World Championships in Kazan. FINA is overall very satisfied with this agreement with Midea, a strong partner for the two biggest events in the aquatic calendar, the FINA World Championships and the FINA World Swimming Championships.

Being a Chinese partner, this association will also enhance the popularity of these two events in a key market for FINA, where our six disciplines have a long standing tradition."

General Manager of Midea Russia, Mr. Alexey Obukhov, said:

“Midea is certainly one of the biggest producers in the world, and while our launching product range here today appears modest in comparison to what we sell in other markets, today’s conference is also to give everyone a clear idea about the future for Midea in the Russian market.”

Founded in 1968, Midea, today is a global leader in the development and manufacture of domestic appliances. As one of the most valuable brands in China, the company was listed in the 2015 Forbes 500 and employs over 100,000 people around the world. Its key markets for future development are Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Canada, USA, Egypt, India, Russia, Belarus and Southeast Asian countries.

FINA and Midea are both preparing for the 16th FINA World Championships to take place in a week in Kazan, Russia, from July 24 - August 9, 2015.
