Ivorian coach Michel Dussuyer has named defender Kouassi Diallo Romuald of second-tier side, Williamsville Athletic Club (WAC) in his final 23-man squad for the Orange CHAN Rwanda 2016.
Romuald, who plays for the Ligue 2 outfit, was the surprise inclusion in the Frenchman’s squad ahead of the 6 January 2016 deadline. The defender is the only member of the team who plays outside the Ivorian top flight.
According to the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF), ‘Les Elephants’ left for South Africa on Tuesday, 5 January 2016 for a training camp, with two friendlies lined up against Guinea and Nigeria on 8 January 2016 and three days later.
The West Africans are housed in Group A with hosts Rwanda, Gabon and Morocco.
Hosts of the maiden edition of the tournament designed exclusively for footballers playing in their domestic leagues, the Ivorians will be making their third appearance this time. Their other participation was in 2011 in Sudan.
