The Lady Zebras were simply too much for the Islanders, who let in five goals after the break. The hosts have a foot at the final round of the qualifiers ahead of the return leg in a fortnight.
Mahlasela completed her brace seven minutes after the break before a goal each from Tlamelo Motlhale and substitutes Bame Ngenda, Golebaone Selebatso and Refilwe Mathlo completed the rout.
Elsewhere in Dakar, Binta Diakhate’s fifth minute strike was all Senegal needed to beat Guinea for a slim lead ahead of the return leg in Conakry.
Visiting North African duo, Morocco and Tunisia held Mali and Burkina Faso to barren draws in Bamako and Ouagadougou respectively.
Earlier on Friday, Zimbabwe maintained their dominance over Tanzania with a 2-1 win at the latter’s backyard, Dar es Salaam. The visiting Mighty Warriors came from behind to snatch victory thanks to Erina Jeke’s double after Mwanahamisi Omary opened the scores on 17 minutes.
The final tournament has been fixed for 19 November – 3 December in the Cameroonian cities of Yaounde and Limbe.
