John Bocco and Herman Tchetche Kipre scored in either half to help Azam see off Malakia and book their place at the last eight on Tuesday of the ongoing 2015 CECAFA-Kagame Cup in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The 26 year old, Bocco, scored the opener on 27 minutes, from a free-kick sending into the right corner which beat Malakia goalie, Kennedy Santolino.

In the second half, it was Shomari Kapombe who picked his second assist of the tournament, when his cross was volleyed home by Kipre. The shot found its way into the palms of Santolino, but the butterfly fingers of the South Sudanese goalie couldn’t stop it.

Azam from Tanzania moved to six points in Group C, whilst Malakia is on three points. Malakia will face Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA) of Uganda in the ultimate Group C clash on Saturday.

In Group B, Ahly Shendi of Sudan settled for a 2-2 draw with Lydia Academic of Burundi to keep their hopes of a place at the quarters intact.

Mohamed Awad Marghani gave Shendi a first half lead on 28 minutes with a chip that went past Lydia Academic goalie Innocent Mbonihankuye. An improved second half performance by the Burundians saw Gael Duhayindavyi level the scores from the spot on 64 minutes after El Sadig Hassan Musa was fouled in the vital area.

A minute later, Duhayindavyi ran with the ball from his own half on the left wing, dribbled past a number of Al Shendi players including goalkeeper Abdurrahman Mukhatar Mohamed, before passing to Aziz Abdoul Nahimana, who controlled before firing into the net to make it 2-1.

Shendi did not change their play and their endless attacks earned them a penalty after a player of the Burundians handled in the penalty area. Marghani converted the spot kick to make it two-all.

In the same group, APR of Rwanda beat Somali champions, Heegan 2-0 at the Karume Stadium to secure their place at the quarter final stage.
