A barren draw against Sierra Leone in the second leg match of the third round of the qualifiers on Saturday in Blida earned ‘Les Fennecs’ the enviable tag of the first side to confirm their place for the continental qualifiers for the Olympic Games Rio de Janeiro.
The Algerians won the previous fixture 2-0 at the same venue last week, and advance by the same score on aggregate.
‘Les Fennecs’ are hoping for yet another appearance at the quadrennial multisport event after their only participation in 1980 in Moscow, Russia.
The remaining six places will be decided next weekend to complete the roll call for the final tournament scheduled for 28 November to 12 December in Senegal.
The top three teams will represent Africa at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, and the fourth placed team facing an Asian side in a playoff.
