A magnificent night in Moscow resulted in a 5-0 victory for Russian Boxing Team over Italia Thunder in the first leg of their second World Series of Boxing (WSB) SB quarter-finals.

Russia was excellent from the beginning of the contest, and lost just two rounds across through each of the five fights.

The result almost all but assures Russia of reaching the semi-final stage, as Italy will need to win all five legs in tomorrow’s second leg, and a tie-break bout to overtake the Russians.

Vadim Kudriakov opened the evening with a dominant performance over Gianluca Conselmo to ensure the first Russian success in the fixture.

Kudriakov beat his opponent to the punch constantly, and despite a head clash in the second round he kept his composure to widely outpoint Conselmo for the second time in WSB history.

Bantamweight (56 kg) Andranik Grigoryan doubled the lead for Russia after an elegant win against Riccardo D'Andrea.

A superb atmosphere in the arena helped Grigoryan control the bout from the outset, and his powerful punches halted the advances of D'Andrea.

Russia then took an unassailable lead in the first leg following the fifth home victory of the season for Light welterweight (64 kg) Vitaliy Dunaytsev.

Maksim Vislaukh was a tough and durable rival in the ring, but the class of Dunaytsev was apparent, and he exhibited his undoubted class en route to a unanimous points decision.

Middleweight (75 kg) Petr Khamukov has been one of the greatest boxers in WSB this season, and the dazzling star took his season record to 7-0 after winning every round against 2-4 Salvatore Cavallaro.

Khamukov has every punch in the book, and displayed them all effortlessly against the rugged Cavallaro, who stood his ground and fought back regularly despite suffering countless power shots.

2013 AIBA World Championships Heavyweight (91 kg) silver medalist Evgeny Tishchenko secured the whitewash with another decisive points win over 2-2 Italian Fabio Turchi.

Tishchenko has tremendous stamina for his weight division, and improved as the fight progressed to win all but one round on the scorecards.
